The New BrokenWallFilms.com / Something Remote DVD
Written by admin on September 17, 2009Hi everyone,
I just re-launched brokenwallfilms.com with a whole new design. If you’re reading this, you probably have noticed that by now. So if you’re asking “why change?”, the answer is simple. We’re a production company and it was difficult to add videos to our website (that’s a problem). So we’ve done a major overhaul and [...]
Structure
Written by alex on August 30, 2009With the way life rolls, it’s hard to find structure while living it. With hindsight being 20/20, it’s easy to loose track of life’s great moments, and capturing them with some sort of structure is even more daunting. Though the structure I seem to be forming is a blog a month, and I am not happy with that. I wanted to keep track of filming, and really give insight to someone like myself a couple of years ago. Sort of a “passing the knowledge” mentality.

Written by alex on July 30, 2009It has been a month since I have committed myself to write my thoughts down. I just got over a job that I think I took on impulse due to financial fears. It only made me realize what I want from my life at this point in time, torn between love and money the Business to Business job was an experience that I am thankful for, but happy to have behind me. The job hunt continues as the Something Remote web series is in full swing and I have tried to commit myself to simply throwing myself at the work that needs to get done, rather then try to strategize and plan every single step. Some things need to be approached with a one track mind, then refined once the hulking mass is shaped a bit.
Moving forward with the webseries has conjured up some new faces and new experiences and it is exciting to unfold, though sometimes the demanding timelines we put down for ourselves could look like a flaw. I think we spend a lot of time wondering if we’re rushing into things rather than simply executing and planning it out beforehand. I know life has a tendency to ask a lot out of us, from bills to food, there seems to be less and less time in the day. I want to channel a lot of what I am doing at this point in life into our work, present or future. I think the sales job has set forth a foundation and experience needed for my next big script I feel I have in me, currently titled Disconnect. Yet the need to “sell out” seems to be in the air, the need to be recognized and utilized by a larger power to gain some sort of justification is a heated issue, and even I am torn between artist and businessman. I still feel a flux between joblessness and art creation, as the ever-growing need for survival becomes more apparent with every passing day. The idea that we could take all this free time to make “art” is a great notion and attitude, yet without the sustenance of a paying job to feed the passion, it really becomes a disheartening crossroad.

Written by nick on July 19, 2009Disclaimer: I probably come off as sounding a bit harsh in some areas of the following essay. I make no apologies. If you’re offended, but don’t emphatically disagree with something I’ve said, then I’m probably right. That can hurt and I know that feeling all too well. Let’s build upon the experience and not get hung up.
Disclaimer 2: Some of the following statements are general, other apply to making features/featurettes, and others apply to creating a web series.
I have a single class in management. Every day I learn more about people, groups, personalities, and management than I did in that entire semester. I’ve taken a relatively quiet approach to producing. Let the director do his thing on set, lend a hand, try to make sure things are in order to get the job done, and keep from becoming a distraction (there are enough of those already when you’re on location). It’s not always obvious what it takes to keep an independent film company moving. To some extent, Alex and Steve have a pretty good idea. Steve probably knows best where I’m coming from. As our Assistant Producer, he shares much of the same operations responsibility (minus some of the executive decisions that need to be made and the technical responsibility of running back end operations like the websites / making sure the web series gets online).
The difference between Broken Wall Films and many companies is that every member of the team can have some sort of say in our direction, goals, creative process, etc. As a small group, I think it’s one of our strengths but I’d like to explain how it has [on many occasions] sidetracked our creativity and put the brakes on rolling the reels.

Written by alex on June 29, 2009Reeling from the Filmmaker Shindig, we move right into the long anticipated Something Remote Web Series.
The Shindig was put on by Chuck Slavin, the force behind Hollywood east, and it was a night of hobnobbing and schmoozing with some of the newest and finest people behind the Video production scene. It was quite the experience seeing and hearing like-minded individuals like ourselves who are trying to do the same stuff. Unfortunately for me, my business cards did not make it here in time, so I was forced to make some hand made ones, but in retrospect, I think they did the trick, as people enjoyed the hand crafted card.
The Shindig was held at “Blue 22″ a bar and grill right next to the Quincy Red Line T stop, so this made travel a breeze. The place quickly filled up with young and old alike and cards were exchanged and laughs were had. I only hope I made a big enough impact and influence onto people’s minds that they come and check out our stuff. I journeyed into many other websites and videos that have been created by other artists such as ourselves, and I have to say I was impressed with the work that exists in Boston. Obviously, I knew we weren’t the only filmmakers in the state, but just being a part of the community and culture felt like I was finally pushing the BWF brand and product, and it couldn’t happen at a more perfect time.
